Zion, IL -The Kenosha Kings scored seven runs in the first inning with two outs; which propelled them to a 11 to 5 victory Thursday evening against the Lake County Fielders.
Andrew Highland swung at the first pitch he saw in the game and deposited into right center field for a two RBI single. Highland finished the game going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's and two runs scored.
Kenosha received a solid performance from lefty Jason Bunton on the mound. Bunton went eight innings, allowing five runs on nine hits; while walking one and striking out three.
Lake County was led offensively by leadoff man Jairo Valdez. Valdez got things going in the first, with a leadoff triple which he would later come around to score on. Valdez finished the game 2 for 4 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
Fielders starter Matt Atkins, lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on ten hits while striking out two and walking two. Ruben Castellano came in for relief and had another fantastic performance out of the 'pen. Castellano threw three and a third innings for the second consecutive night, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out one and walking four.
The "Border Battle" series continues Friday evening at 7 pm for game 15 at Fielders Stadium in Zion, Illinois. The Kenosha Kings currently have a 8 games to 6 advantage over the Lake County Fielders with four games to go. Tickets still remain for all games.
