Zion, IL - David Casey's first inning RBI single scoring Jairo Valdez got the offense going Sunday in a 8 to 3 victory over the Kenosha Kings at Fielders Stadium.
Leading the offensive charge for Lake County was outfielders Herman Petzold and Justin Smith. Petzold went 2 for 5 with a pair of singles, an RBI and a run scored. Smith went 1 for 4 with an RBI triple in the third and a sac fly RBI to center in the eighth.
Fielders starter Chris Krepline went six innings, surrendering three runs on ten hits while walking three and striking out three. He was relieved by Michael Martin who pitched a scoreless third of an inning. Bryant Asnicar came in to pitch the for an inning and two-thirds; with Adam Polston coming in the 9th inning to finish off Kenosha.
Kenosha starter Andrew Paulauskas went six innings allowing five runs on eight hits. Kenosha was led offensively by their number three and four hitters; John Hasser and Matt Soderlund. Hasser finished 3 for 5 on the afternoon with a pair of singles, a double and a run scored. Soderlund went 2 for 5 at the plate with an RBI single in the first inning.
The "Border Battle" series concludes Monday evening at 7 pm for game 17 at Fielders Stadium in Zion, Illinois. The series is now even between the Kenosha Kings and Lake County Fielders at eight wins a piece. Tickets for Mondays game are still avaliable by going online or coming straight to the box office.
