Orange County Flyers News Release
Orange County scored a season-high 18 runs in routing the Calgary Vipers, 18-6, at Goodwin Fieldon Tuesday night. Five different Flyers had multi-RBI games with rookie Tyler Keeble leading the charge with four RBI on a fifth inning grand slam. Keeble finished the night 2-for-4 with three runs scored while Jimmy Rohan went 3-for-6 with three RBI and two runs.
Manny Ayala earned the win for Orange County, improving to 5-0 on the year. Ayala settled down after giving up a homerun to Jonny Kaplan to being the game for an early 1-0 Calgary advantage. Ayala faced the minimum 12 batters from the second through fifth innings. The Flyers starting pitcher finished the night giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking two over six innings.
Vipers starter Anastacio Martinez walked three straight batters in the second inning before Flyers catcher Jim Goethals doubled in Sergio Pedroza and David Harris. One batter later, Manny Ayala fielders choice cashed Tyler Keeble as Orange County took a 3-1 lead.
In the fifth inning, Orange County broke the game open with five runs off Martinez. Steve Boggs was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and Derek Perren drew a walk. After Jimmy Rohan's RBI double scored Boggs, Ginter reached on a fielders choice that erased Perren from the base paths. Pedroza was intentionally walked to load the bases, and two batters later Tyler Keeble emptied the bases with a grand slam, putting Orange County ahead 8-1 through five innings.
Calgary got three runs back in the sixth inning on RBI hits from Brent Metheny, Drew Miller and Caonabo Cosme, but Ginter answered for Orange County with a two-run double in the bottom of the frame.
The Flyers piled on with three runs in the seventh, and five more in the eighth, including a David Harris two-run homerun, his third of the season.
Calgary dropped its franchise-record 11th consecutive game.
