Rohan, Koons Named All-Stars
July 7, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Orange County Flyers News Release
The Orange County Flyers are sending two players - second baseman Jimmy Rohan and pitcher Mike Koons - to next week's All-Star Game in Tucson, Arizona. This season, Golden Baseball League All-Stars will face off against an all-star team from the independent Northern League at Hi Corbett Field on July 14 at 7:00pm.
Rohan, 26, is a former Triple-A prospect of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is currently fourth in the GBL with a .375 batting average and leads the Flyers with 28 RBI and 13 doubles to go along with two homeruns. The infielder made the All-Star team as a second baseman despite having played third base for half of the season. Rohan put together a 15-game hitting streak earlier in the season, and he has already broken the franchise record for four-hit games in a season with five in 2010.
Koons, 24, has provided consistent relief pitching for Orange County this season. The right-hander's 2.59 ERA is tops among Flyers pitchers to go along with his 2-0 record and 24.1 innings of work over 18 games. Koons is coming off a 16 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings pitched streak, breaking the old franchise record of 16 consecutive scoreless innings that stood since 2005.
Flyers manager Paul Abbott will also be traveling to Tucson as Pitching Coach for the GBL All-Star team. Abbott pitched for 11 years in the Major Leagues, winning 17 games as a starter with the Seattle Mariners in 2001.
The 23-man GBL All-Star roster includes the following players:
Catcher: Mike Rose (Chico), Josh Arhart (Victoria)
Firstbase: Cliff Brumbaugh (Edmonton)
Secondbase: Jimmy Rohan (Orange County)
Shortstop: Ryan Priddy (Tucson)
