Caps Winning Streak Hits Eight With Close Call
July 7, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release
It was a rollercoaster ride for the Edmonton Capitals on Fiesta Night. They spotted the visiting Tijuana Cimarrones a huge six nothing lead, chipped away and eventually had their own comfortable lead. The visitors rallied to make it very interesting but in the end Steve Brown hit a pinch hit single in the bottom of the ninth to drive home the winning run in a wild 14 - 13 win on Family Vision Care $2 Tuesday.
The Capitals would care to have the first inning back. Starting pitcher Clint Nageotte was replaced by Mike Hrynio who seem to settle the entire squad down. Hrynio had a great outing with nine strikeouts through six and two thirds innings of work. He also added his third home run of the season to help out his own cause.
The Caps came back in the middle innings with home runs from Hrynio, Ryan Stevenson and Tom Collaro. Alex Prieto also had a big game going 3 for 5 at the plate with a couple of runs scored. Edmonton actually had a 13 - 7 lead at one point.
Former major leaguer Kit Pellow then stepped up and hit a 2-2 pitch over the left field wall for a grand slam home run off closer Chad Blackwell to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning. The Caps were not about to let it slip away and sealed it before the game could get to extra innings.
That's an eight game winning streak for Edmonton who improves their record to 24-15. The series and Mexican themed fun continues against Tijuana (6-33) Wednesday through Saturday. Next up is a Sonic Wiener Wednesday at TELUS Field where hot dogs are only $2. On Thursday, the Edmonton Oilers Prospects will be on hand to take in the action and throw out ceremonial first pitches before the game. All the big names will be there including Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson.
