Akron RubberDucks News Release
(AKRON, OHIO) June 25, 2014 - Erie's Dean Green smacked a two-run single in the top of the third inning Wendesday, leading the SeaWolves to a 4-2 win over the AkronRubberDucks in the wrap-up of a two-game series at Canal Park.
The series was shortened to two game when Tuesday evening's game against Erie was postponed due to inclement weather. That game will be rescheduled as part of a double header on July 19.
The RubberDucks (45-33) and Harrisburg Senators will begin a four-game series Thursday at Canal Park, starting at 7:05 p.m. Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper is expected to play with the Senators as part of a minor league rehab assignment.
An RBI single by Corey Jones in the first put an early run on the board for the SeaWolves. Akron quickly knotted the score in their first inning at bat, with an RBI by Anthony Gallas sending Joey Wendle across the plate. Gallas went 2-4 in his only appearance of the series.
A RBI single by Jordan Smith gave the RubberDucks the lead, 2-1 in the second. Smith led the team in hits for the afternoon, going 3-4 and recording his second three-hit game on the season.
The SeaWolves (32-43) rallied in the third, with an RBI double by Steven Moya and Green's two-run single producing three runs on the inning, taking the lead 4-2.
The scoreboard read zero's for the remainder of the game, finalizing the SeaWolves' 4-2 win.
Shortstop Francisco Lindor exited the game after taking a bad-hop grounder into his face into the third inning. He received precautionary x-rays following the game, and will meet with trainers and medical staff to assess his condition.
RubberDucks starter Will Roberts (7-8) was charged with the loss, pitching six innings, allowing eight hits, four earned runs, walking two and striking out three batters.
SeaWolves starter Warwick Saupold pitched one inning for Erie before exiting the game due to an ankle injury. He allowed two hits, one earned run, and walked one batter. Ryan Robowski (3-0) took the bump following Saupold, earning the win for Erie. He threw 2.2 innings, allowed three hits, one earned run, and walked one batter.
The RubberDucks will begin a four-day series against the Harrisburg Senators Thursday at Canal Park starting at 7:05 p.m. Akron righty Cody Anderson (2-6, 5.21) will start for the Ducks, and right-hander A.J. Cole will take the mound for the Senators (6-3, 2.92). The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM in the Akron area, and also via www.AkronRubberDucks.com.
