Chesapeake Baysox News Release
Bowie, Md. - Niuman Romero and Nolan Reimold hit back-to-back home runs as part of a four-run fifth inning that helped propel the Baysox from a two-run deficit to a 7-3 win over Trenton Wednesday. With the win, the Baysox swept the three-game home series and have won six-in-a-row against Trenton.
The Baysox struck quickly in the bottom of the first inning against Trenton starter Eric Wooten. Romero hit a one-out double to left field, moved to third base on a passed ball and scored on a Reimold sacrifice fly to right field to give the Baysox a 1-0 lead.
Trenton took the lead right back in the top of the second inning against Baysox starter Anthony Vasquez. Zach Wilson drew a two-out walk and Dan Fiorito followed with a home run to left-center field to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead.
The Thunder added to their lead in the top of the fifth inning. Ben Gamel hit a lead off double to right field, moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt from Carmen Angelini and scored on a double to left field from Gary Sanchez to make the score 3-1.
Bowie came back to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. David Adams hit a lead off double to right field and moved to third base on a Sharlon Schoop groundout. David Freitas then fought through a 14-pitch at-bat to double to left field and plate Adams. Romero hit a two-out home run to center field and Reimold followed with a home run of his own to left field to give the Baysox a 5-3 lead. Manny Barreda then replaced Wooten on the mound to finish the inning.
The Baysox extended the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Chris Marrero drew a one-out walk and Sharlon Schoop followed with a single to left field that moved Marrero to second base. Freitas then knocked in his second run of the game with a single to center field to give the Baysox a 6-3 lead.
Bowie added another run in the bottom of the seventh inning against Trenton reliever Nick Goody. Romero drew a one-out walk and Walker hit a two-out triple to right field that plated Romero and gave the Baysox a 7-3 lead.
Vasquez pitched six innings and allowed three runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking two in the win. Reliever Steve Hensley pitched two scoreless innings, not allowing a hit and striking out two batters. Baysox reliever Juan Morillo pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit.
Wooten took the loss for Trenton, throwing four and two-thirds innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits while striking out one batter.
LHP Tim Berry (4-3, 4.00) takes the mound for the Baysox Thursday as the team opens a five-game road series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. He will be opposed by RHP Austin Fleet (4-1, 3.45).
The Baysox depart for a five game, four day roadtrip to Richmond Thursday and return home Monday, June 31 for four games against Altoona.
