Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release
GREENSBORO - Solo home runs by Mike Stanton and Jameson Smith briefly sparks a relatively quick 7,658 in attendance Friday as the Hoppers lost their second straight, 8-2, to the visiting Kannapolis Intimidators.
Smith hit his first career home run in the fifth inning to give Greensboro its first run and Stanton tacked on another in the sixth, but the efforts were too little too later after Kannapolis had already taken a 7-0 lead off of starter Stu Alexander.
Greensboro's two home runs accounted for half of the teams' total hits in the contest.
With the loss, Greensboro fell out of first place in the second-half standings.
Alexander pitched five innings before giving way to Kevin Gunter. Corey Madden pitched a perfect ninth inning while striking out two.
The Hoppers will return to action Saturday in the third game of a current four-game homestand. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
