Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
EASTLAKE, Ohio - The Lakewood BlueClaws dropped a pair of games on Friday night at Classic Park, as Lake County swept a doubleheader, 6-2 and 8-3. The BlueClaws have yet to win a doubleheader game this season, falling to 0-6 in seven-inning twin- bill contests.
The BlueClaws have also lost six of their last seven and finished just 1-4 on their road trip to Hagerstown and Lake County.
The BlueClaws offense was kept in check in both games, but no one managed to do that better than game one starter Kelvin De La Cruz. The left-hander, who came into the game with 1.60 ERA, did not allow an earned run in 5 2/3 innings while striking out seven.
Lakewood (3-6, 41-38) did get a pair of unearned runs against De La Cruz(6-3), but it was not enough as Lake County (4-5, 45-36) roughed up Walter Tejeda (3-4) for five runs in the bottom of the third. Tejeda, who was making his second start since rejoining the BlueClaws from the disabled list over the All Star break, gave up four hits in the decisive inning. He also walked three.
Joe Rocchio had the same control issues when he entered the game in the fourth. The right-handed reliever also walked three in 1 2/3, though just one run crossed against Rocchio.
The BlueClaws did take an early lead against De La Cruz, with Dominic Brown notching a clutch RBI base hit with two outs in the top of the third. Lakewood added one more in the sixth on a triple from Jay Miller. It was Miller's first RBI with the BlueClaws this season. Lakewood's offense showed more life in game two, though they lacked the big hit they needed. Lakewood pounded out ten hits in seven innings, but ended up stranding ten men on base.
Joey Mahalic (5-2) gave up seven hits, but only allowed two runs to cross home plate. The right- hander struck out two and walked two.
Brown continued his hot hitting in game two, going 2- for-3 with a triple, while walking once. He also reached on an error.
Chris Kissock (1-4) got the spot start for the BlueClaws and gave up five runs, four earned, in four innings. He also gave up three home runs-one each to Roman Pena, Karexon Sanchez and former college-teammate Mark Thompson.
The BlueClaws will return to FirstEnergy Park on Saturday night at 7:05 when they take on the Delmarva Shorebirds. Chance Chapman (4-4) will take the mound for the BlueClaws.
The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive Carlos Ruiz "Made the Phillies" bobbleheads, courtesy of State Farm Insurance.
