
Captains Sweep DH from BlueClaws

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH) - Adam White drove in three runs in the first game and Roman Peña drove in three runs in the night cap as the Lake County Captains swept a doubleheader from the Lakewood BlueClaws 6-2 and 8-3. This was the Captains fifth doubleheader sweep of the year.
In game one, the Captains trailed 1-0 when they erupted for three runs in the bottom of the third inning when a balk by BlueClaws starter Walter Tejeda scored Lucas Montero and that was followed up by a two RBI single by White and it was 3-1. The Captains scored two more runs in the inning on a two RBI double by Jeff Hehr and it was 5-1. The Captain made it 6-1 as they tacked on another run in the fourth inning on another RBI by White. The BlueClaws added another unearned run in the sixth to make it 6-2.
Kelvin De La Cruz picked up the win to up his record to 6-3 going 5.2 innings giving up two unearned runs on three hits, walking one and striking out seven. Paolo Espino followed De La Cruz and pitched 1.2 scoreless innings. Walter Tejeda took the loss and saw his record fall to 3-4.
In game two, the Captains trailed 1-0 also, but Peña hit his seventh home run of the year in the bottom of the first inning off of Claws starter Chris Kissock, a two run shot and the Captains led 2-0. Karexon Sanchez and Mark Thompson both hit solo homers in the bottom of the second inning and it was 4-1. The Captain added another run in the third on another RBI by Peña making it 5-1. After the BlueClaws made it 5-2, the Captains added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The BlueClaws added a run in the seventh to finish the scoring at 8-3.
Joey Mahalic got the win to raise his record to 5-2 going five innings and allowing two runs on seven hits. Chris Kissock took the loss to drop his record to 1-4.
The Captains will host the Hagerstown Suns for a two-game series starting on Saturday at 7:05 PM. The Captains will send LHP Ryan Miller (7-2, 2.13) to the mound against the Suns RHP Erik Arnesen (6-2, 4.28). All Captains games can be heard on AM 1330 WELW, WELW.COM or CAPTAINSBASEBALL.COM.
Saturday will also be a fireworks night at Classic Park with game time at 7:05 PM. Post-game fireworks will be presented by Hillcrest Hospital. Also, the first 1,000 fans who enter Classic Park will receive a Buster Bluegill Mini-Bobblehead presented by National City Bank.
Sunday at 1:05 PM is a Plevin and Gallucci Family Fun Day where fans can meet Captains players prior to the game and get autographs and kids can run the bases after the game presented by Andrews Osborne Academy. The first 1,500 fans through the gates will receive a Captains Ice Cream Scooper courtesy of Edy's.
The Captains hit the road following Sunday's game with a two-game stop in Delmarva beginning on Monday and a four-game series in Kannapolis starting Wednesday. The Captains return home for their next home stand on July 7th which will run through the 14th.
Tickets for all Captains home games including the 2008 SAL Playoffs are on sale at the Classic Park box office, by phone at 440-954-WINS (9467) or at captainsbaseball.com. Tickets for the Playoffs remain the same as regular season game tickets, $9 reserved seat, $7 bleachers, juniors, and seniors, $6 lawn. Lawn seats for the Playoffs will only be sold once the reserved seats and bleachers are sold out. The $7 group rate will still apply to groups of 20 or more.
