Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

Hagerstown, MD.- While they certainly refused to go down without an enthusiastic fight, Delmarva could not rally to overtake Hagerstown in the Suns' 7-6 victory on Friday night. Trailing 7-1 after six innings, the Shorebirds scored five times in the seventh to put a scare in the Suns. Three consecutive doubles by Matt Angle, Tyler Henson, and Joe Nowicki inched the Birds closer, but Hagerstown's Edulin Abreu was able to hold off Delmarva over the final couple innings to preserve the victory.

Angle once again led the Shorebird offense with his second straight three-hit evening, and Delmarva out-hit Hagerstown 11-9 in a losing effort. Starter Luis Noel was knocked out in Hagerstown's four-run fifth inning. Noel walked a season-high six batters and suffered his second consecutive loss to the Suns in the last five days. The victor, once again at Noel's expense, was Bradley Meyers, who was dominant through the first six innings before he tired a bit in the Shorebirds' big seventh.

The loss is Delmarva's first of the season in Hagerstown following seven straight wins. Currently, this defeat snaps the Birds' streak of four straight victories to begin the road trip. Lakewood is the weekend destination for Delmarva, as the Shorebirds will take on the BlueClaws on Saturday and Sunday before returning home to Salisbury on Monday night against Lake County.
