Small Ball Secures Win for Sea Dogs

Manchester, New Hampshire - The Portland Sea Dogs beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3-1 on Thursday night at Delta Dental Stadium. Despite the Fisher Cats scoring first, the Sea Dogs answered with a two-run fourth inning to secure the victory with Ronaldo Hernandez and Tyreque Reed each recording multi-hit games.

Denyi Reyes earned his fourth win of the year pitching 3.2 shutout innings in relief, allowing three hits while striking out four. Frank German was given the save, his first since July 20, 2018. He struck out two batters in his perfect ninth inning.

In the bottom of the third inning with Samad Taylor at third, LJ Talley hit a line drive to Portland's second baseman, Cameron Cannon. Cannon dropped the ball out of his glove, allowing Taylor to score and Talley to reach first base. The Sea Dogs trailed 1-0 after the third inning.

After a lead-off single by Ronaldo Hernandez in the fourth inning, Hudson Potts moved him to third on a deep double to rightfield. Nick Fraze then threw a wild pitch allowing Hernandez to score and the game was tied, 1-1. Roldani Baldwin popped up a sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring Potts and the Sea Dogs took the 2-1 lead in the fourth inning.

Portland struck again in the top of the sixth inning. Ryan Fitzgerald hit a groundball to the second baseman, Kevin Vicuna, but he committed the fielding error allowing Fitzgerald to reach. He then stole second, his fourth stolen base of the year. Jeisson Rosario singled him home, extending the Sea Dogs' lead 3-1.

The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats will face-off again tomorrow, Friday September 3rd beginning at 5:35pm for a doubleheader. RHP Josh Winckowski (6-3, 4.30 ERA) will take the mound for Portland in game one while RHP Victor Santos (3-1, 2.61 ERA) will be on the bump for game two. Radio coverage on the WPEI Sea Dogs Radio Network, built by General Dynamics/ Bath Iron Works, begins at 6:50 PM.
