Yard Goats Drop Doubleheader vs Fightins

Hartford, CT - The Yard Goats dropped both games of a doubleheader 2-0 and 2-1 on Thursday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park in Hartford. Yard Goats game one starter Karl Kauffmann pitched well in six innings but was the tough luck loser, and Nate Harris turned in a solid start in game two and departed a 1-1 game in the fifth. Casey Golden had two hits, including a double and scored a run, and Willie Abreu drove in a run for the Yard Goats in the twin-bill.

In game one, Reading starting pitcher Adam Leverett carried a no-hit bid into the seventh inning, and combined on a one-hitter as the Fightin Phils defeated Hartford 2-0. The Fightins scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Dalton Guthrie and Logan O'Hoppe added a run on a solo home run in the sixth inning. Yard Goats catcher Willie MacIver had Hartford's only hit, a one-out single in the seventh.

In game two, the Yard Goats took a 1-0 lead on Willie Abreu's RBI single in the fourth inning off Reading starter James McArthur. Casey Golden led off the inning with a double and advanced to third base on a passed ball before Abreu knocked him in for the first run of the game.

Reading tied the game in the fifth inning on a wild pitch. Chris Cornelius and Sal Gozzo began the frame with back-to-back singles putting runners at the corners with nobody out. Hartford starter Nate Harris retired the next two batters, but then threw a wild pitch allowing Cornelius to score and make it 1-1.

The Fightins took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning. Luke Miller struck out to begin the inning but then reached on a wild pitch by Zach Matson. Miller advanced to second on another wild pitch. Colby Fitch followed with an RBI double, scoring Miller to give Reading a 2-1 lead.

The Yard Goats continue the homestand on Friday night against the Phillies affiliate at Dunkin' Donuts Park at 7:05 PM. Tickets are available by visiting the website, yardgoatsbaseball.com.
