
Slugfest favors Syracuse in win over IronPigs

(Allentown, Pa) - The Syracuse Mets (66-61) slugged their way to an 11-8 win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (60-66) on Tuesday night. The Mets have now won seven straight games while the IronPigs have lost three straight games.
The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning as Chris Mazza hit an RBI double off Dan Straily (4-3) with two outs. Syracuse extended their lead to 7-0 in the top of the third inning against Straily. Arismandy Alcantara homered and Gregor Blanco hit a two-run double. They were followed by a two-run single by Sam Haggerty and an RBI single by Brandon Nimmo.
Straily left the second inning without recording an out and Kyle Dohy proceeded to pitch three scoreless innings in relief. Austin Listi hit an RBI double off Mazza in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Mets lead to 7-1.
The score became 7-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning as Nick Williams doubled off Mazza that chased him out of the game. Maikel Franco hit an RBI double off Eric Hanhold (3-3) and Andrew Romine hit an RBI single.
The Mets got a run against Josh Tols in the top of the sixth inning and three runs off JD Hammer in the top of the seventh inning to take an 11-4 lead. Lehigh Valley struck back with four runs against Donnie Hart in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 11-8. Williams and Listi homered while Romine hit an RBI single.
Austin Davis and Connor Brogdon each pitched a scoreless inning in relief. Tyler Bashlor earned his fifth save of the season for the Mets by retiring the side in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The IronPigs and Mets play on Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Park beginning at 7:05 p.m.
