Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
DAVENPORT, IA - The Quad Cities River Bandits scored five runs in the first inning and kept tacking on runs late to defeat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 11-4 at Modern Woodmen Park on Thursday night. Alex Hall provided all the Timber Rattlers runs, but River Town stopped a Wisconsin rally with a great defensive play and chipped in four RBI of his own for Quad Cities.
The River Bandits (5-6) ambushed Wisconsin with five runs off starting pitcher Cameron Wagoner in the bottom of the first inning. A hit batsman and a walk started the inning. Carter Jensen drove in the first run of the inning with a single. Another single loaded the based before Town knocked in two more runs with a single. Kale Emshoff followed with a bloop single to right to score the fourth run of the frame. Wagoner uncorked a wild pitch to let in the last run of the inning and the Rattlers were down 5-0.
Wisconsin (6-6) responded with two runs in the top of the second. Jesús Chirinos drew a two-out walk on the 3-2 pitch from River Bandits starter Noah Cameron. Hall, batting right-handed against the left-handed Cameron, followed with a long home run to left-center and Wisconsin trailed by three. The homer was Hall's third of the season.
The Timber Rattlers had an opportunity in the fifth inning to get a little closer. Cameron gave up a single to Micah Bello, committed an error to put Eric Brown Jr on base, and threw a wild pitch to put both runners in scoring position with one out. Cameron got the second out of the inning with his ninth strikeout of the game but had to leave after reaching his pitch limit.
Parker Harm took over from the Quad Cities bullpen to face Joe Gray Jr. Gray sent a shallow fly down the line in right and Town raced in to make a diving catch for the final out and to strand both runners.
After taking two runs away from the Timber Rattlers in the top of the fifth, Town added two runs to the River Bandits lead in the bottom of the fifth. Wagoner walked a pair of batters in the Quad Cities fifth inning and turned the game over to reliever Joey Matulovich with one out. Matulovich got Negret to strikeout on the 3-2 pitch, but both runners were moving on the pitch and the double steal was pulled without a play to get two in scoring position.
Matulovich got ahead of Town 1-2, but Town was able to drop the next pitch into center to score both runners and the Bandits were up 7-2.
The Bandits added to their lead in the late innings. David Hollie tripled with one out in the sixth against Max Lazar. Gavin Cross followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score Hollie. In the seventh, Cayden Wallace tripled to start the inning. He scored on a wild pitch. Hollie stepped up with a man on in the bottom of the eighth inning and cracked a two-run homer to left-center and the Rattlers found themselves down 11-2 heading to the ninth.
Hall, hitting from the left side of the plate, provided Wisconsin's other runs when he cranked a pitch from righty Luis Barroso out of the park to right-field with Chirinos on first base in the ninth inning. Hall homered from both sides of the plate in the game for his second two-homer game of the week. He had also homered twice on Sunday afternoon at home in a win against Peoria.
Wisconsin batters struck out fifteen times in Thursday's game. Quad Cities pitchers have 41 strikeouts in the first three games of the six-game series.
Game four of the series is Friday night at Modern Woodmen Park. Stiven Cruz (1-0, 2.00) will be the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The River Bandits have named Luinder Avila (1-1, 1.08) as their starter. Game time is 6:30pm. The radio broadcast is on AM 1280, WNAM starting with the Community Blood Center Pregame Show at 6:10pm and on the internet at this link. The game is also available to subscribers of Bally Live.
