Skyforce Reacquires Sam Thompson

Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Skyforce announced today that the team has reacquired forward Sam Thompson from the available player pool. To complete the transaction, guard Tarkus Ferguson was waived.

Thompson, a 6-7, 200-pound forward out of Ohio State University went undrafted in the 2015 NBA Draft.

He appeared in five games for the Skyforce this season, averaging 6.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 1.2 steals in 26.7 minutes per game.

Before his stint in Sioux Falls, Thompson played with JB Monferrato in Italy, averaging 14.4 points on 42.2 percent shooting, 5.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 30 appearances (30 starts) for the team.

He has spent a combination of three seasons in the G League and was the seventh overall pick in the 2015 NBA G League Draft by the Grand Rapids Drive. Thompson was traded to Delaware during the season, and between the two teams, he averaged 7.8 points on 45.9 percent shooting, 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 43 games (25 starts) as a rookie. He spent the 2016-17 season with Vasas Akademia Budapest of the Hungarian NBIA league, averaging 14.8 points on 45.1 percent shooting, 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 28 games (24 starts). Thompson returned to the G League, signing with the Greensboro Swarm for the 2017-19 seasons.

Thompson played four years at Ohio State, averaging 6.9 points on 47.2 percent shooting, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 146 games (83 starts).

Thompson will wear #25 for the Skyforce and is expected to be available for the team's upcoming home game on February 3 against the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 PM at the Sanford Pentagon.
