Magic Fall to Cruise in Cannady's Return

February 1, 2022 - NBA G League (G League)
Osceola Magic News Release

The Lakeland Magic, NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, fell to the Motor City Cruise 118-104 at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland.

In April of 2021, while playing with the Orlando Magic after a call-up from Lakeland, NBA G League Finals MVP Devin Cannady suffered a severe ankle injury that ended his season. After surgery, rehab and over nine months of recovery work, Cannady made his return tonight for the Lakeland Magic. Cannady came off the bench and made his first shot, a cutting layup in the lane, followed it up with a deep three, and finished the game with 16 points in 15 minutes.

The Motor City Cruise got off to a hot start early behind strong play from Saben Lee. Luka Garza scored 15 of his 23 points in the first half, helping Motor City take a big lead into the break. In the third quarter a 14-2 Lakeland run, capped off by seven consecutive Magic points from Jeff Dowtin, cut a once 27-point lead to single digits. Despite strong additional play from Aleem Ford and Jeremiah Tilmon, Lakeland was unable to make up the difference.

Dowtin finished with a team-high 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Ford posted 16 points and eight rebounds. Tilmon added 13 points, nine rebounds and four blocks. In his first game with the Lakeland Magic, Latvian and Baltic League Finals MVP, Jānis Timma scored 13 points, eight rebounds and two assists.

Lee had 23 points, 14 assists and five rebounds for the Cruise. Garza also had 23 points and added seven rebounds and three assists. Cassius Stanely finished with 22 points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Lakeland Magic take on the Wisconsin Herd on Thursday, February 3 at 7:00 PM at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland. Fans can tune in to watch on Bally Sports Florida.
