Birmingham Squadron News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Squadron (5-5), NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, earned a win against the Agua Caliente Clippers (7-3), taking down first place in the Western Conference in a 107-102 victory Monday night.
A close match until the buzzer, the two teams stayed neck and neck the entirety of the game, including three lead changes and six ties. Birmingham closed the first quarter with a three to cut the Clippers lead to 28-27, before outscoring Agua Caliente 30-19 in the second quarter to take a commanding 10-point lead at the half.
Agua Caliente came out of the half firing on all cylinders and outscored the Squadron in the third 30-21 to tighten the Squadron lead to just one heading into the fourth. The Squadron's accurate shooting in the fourth quarter closed out the game, as the team shot .471 from the field.
Squadron guard Darius Adams led the team with a season-high 23 points off the bench, shooting a very efficient 8-for-13 from the field (.615) and 3-for-6 (.500) from behind the arc. Adams added five rebounds, two assists and one steal in the contest.
Two Squadron players notched double-doubles in the game, including guard Jared Harper (21 points and 10 assists) and forward Zylan Cheatham (18 points and 10 rebounds). Harper's 10 assists were just one shy of his season high (11 vs. SLC 1/16/22) and gave him his second double-double this season. He is just one of 12 players in the G League with multiple games of 10+ assists this regular season. Cheatham's double-double was his third of the season in just three games with Birmingham.
Alabama native Xavier Moon led the Clippers with 26 points, tying his season high. He shot 54.5% from the field on 12 of 22 attempts and added seven rebounds, four assists and one steal in the game.
The Birmingham Squadron have a quick turnaround, facing the Santa Cruz Warriors (5-6) tomorrow night at Legacy Arena at 7:00 p.m. CT.
