
Birmingham Squadron Wins Fourth Straight, Defeats Santa Cruz Warriors 122-110

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Squadron (6-5), NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, earned a high-scoring win against the Santa Cruz Warriors (5-7) tipping the scale in favor of a winning record for the home team with a 122-110 victory.
Birmingham's accurate shooting proved to be the key to victory as the team posted a .561 clip from the field on 46 of 82 attempts. Birmingham's 122 points tonight were also the second most by the team this season (123 vs. SLC, 1/16/22).
The Squadron got off to a quick start, leading by as many as 18 in the first quarter, but the Warriors fought back, cutting the Squadron lead to just six at halftime. Coming out of the half, Birmingham never looked back, extending their lead over the Santa Cruz Warriors to as many as 20 in the fourth quarter and finishing up their two-game home stand with a win.
The Squadron had a balanced attack on offense with six players scoring in double digits. Lead scorers Zach Hankins and Jared Harper had 20 points each and were followed closely behind by Ra'Shad James and Joe Young who both had 19 points. Zylan Cheatham (18) and Darius Adams (16) also added to the team's advantage.
Two Squadron players also finished the night with double-doubles, including Young (19 points and 10 assists) and Cheatham (18 points and 11 rebounds). Young's night came up just shy of his 21.1 point per game average and ended with him almost doubling his 5.3 assist per game average in addition to his six rebounds and four steals. Cheatham now ranks second in the league in rebounds, averaging 12.2 per game, second only to Davontae Cacock (13.4) of the Austin Spurs. In addition to continuing his trend of double-doubles, (His fourth in regular season play with the Squadron), Cheatham finished the night with four assists and a steal.
Guard Kalob Ledoux led the Warriors offense with 24 points and added five rebounds, four assists and two steals, while forward LJ Figueroa finished the night with a double-double on 21 point 10 rebounds.
The Birmingham Squadron will now take to the road as they head to Southaven, Mississippi to face off against the Memphis Hustle at Landers Center on February 4 at 7:00 p.m. CT.
