Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express (24-22) was unable to overcome a six-run deficit as the Reno Aces (18-29) took game three of a four-game set, 6-2 Wednesday night at Dell Diamond.
After failing to score a run through the first 18.0 innings of the four-game set, Reno put two on the board in the first frame off Express starter Lisalverto Bonilla. The first two batters reached on a single and error by Bonilla and then pulled off a double steal to put themselves in scoring position. The Aces played small ball, using a couple of groundouts to push the runners across the plate for their first lead of the series.
Bonilla settled in, allowing just the one hit over 3.0 innings of work before the Express brought in right-hander Nick McBride to make his Triple-A debut in the top of the fourth. The 2009 fifth-round draft pick was touched up with a pair of doubles and a three-run home run as the Aces scored four runs to take a 6-0 lead.
Reno starter Tyler Skaggs was dominant most of the night, holding Round Rock to just two hits through the first six innings. The E-Train got to Skaggs in the bottom half of the seventh when right fielder Joey Butler launched his fourth homer of the season to break up the shut out. Second baseman Yangervis Solarte followed with a double off the left field wall but Skaggs caught first baseman Mike Bianucci looking to end the inning.
An error gave the E-Train its second run in the bottom of the eighth when center fielder Jim Adduci scored from second on a mishandled ground ball by third baseman Matt Davidson. Skaggs would exit after the error, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits over 7.2 innings of work, his longest outing of the season.
Round Rock was unable to generate any offense through the remainder of the game as the Reno bullpen finished off the final 1.1 innings.
Skaggs earned the win, his fourth, while Bonilla (3-3) suffered the loss in his first start since September 3, 2011 (Lakewood - A, Philadelphia).
The Express concludes its eight game homestand with the series finale against Reno at 7:05 p.m. The E-Train will send right-hander Scott Richmond (0-0, 2.25 ERA) to the mound to face Randall Delgado (1-3, 7.62 ERA) of the Aces. Dell Diamond will be the site of the Original Thirsty Thursday with $1.00 sodas and discounted draft beer throughout the evening, presented by Firetrol Protection Systems.
