TACOMA, Wash. - Stefen Romero singled in the ninth inning to lead the Tacoma Rainiers to an 8-7 walk-off win over the Nashville Sounds at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday night.
With the score tied at 7-7, Romero lined a single to center field with one out to clear the way for Alex Liddi to score the game-winning run from first base. The victory marked the second walk-off win for Tacoma over their last three games and stretched the club's winning streak to four.
Tacoma trailed 6-5 until Nick Franklin scored the tying run on a wild pitch thrown by Nashville's Donovan Hand in the seventh inning. Abraham Almonte successfully laid down a bunt single that plated Nate Tenbrink in the eighth, providing the Rainiers a 7-6 lead that stuck until the Sounds scored the tying run in the ninth.
The Rainiers combined to collect 10 hits in the contest. The outfielder Almonte went 2-for-4 and produced three RBI, including a two-run double in the second inning. Mike Zunino also drove in a pair of runs after delivering a two-run double in the second. The catcher has recorded 35 RBI this season.
Reliever Bobby LaFromboise (3-0) earned the win after collecting the final two outs for Tacoma in the top of the ninth. Left-hander Jimmy Gillheeney allowed just one run on four hits over 3.0 innings of work out of the bullpen after entering the game in the sixth.
Starter Hector Noesi surrendered six runs on ten hits over 5.0 innings in his 2013 Rainiers debut. The right-hander struck out four Sounds batters without issuing a walk.
The Rainiers (28-18) host the third game of the team's four-game series with the Sounds (12-31) at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow, May 22. Right-hander Andrew Carraway (4-1, 3.19) is scheduled to start for Tacoma in the contest against right-hander Tyler Thornburg (0-5, 6.80) for Nashville.
