Sixers Set Season High in Runs in Comeback
September 1, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Inland Empire 66ers News Release
Adelanto, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers were nearly stymied through five innings at Heritage Field on Wednesday night mustering just an infield hit; that changed in a major way as the Sixers unloaded on the High Desert Mavericks for seven runs in the sixth en route to a 13-7 win. The 13 runs were a season-best for the Sixers and marked only the fifth time all season the 66ers won a contest that they trailed in after five innings.
David Ledbetter allowed just the infield hit to IE's Hutton Moyer for the Mavs through his first five innings. He did not get an out in the sixth as he was charged with five runs and earned a no-decision. The Sixers got a three-run homer from Michael Hermosillo to cut into the Mavs' 5-0 lead and kept pouring it on. Inland Empire (47-88, 24-41) got a RBI single from Zach Houchins, two-run double from Michael Strentz and RBI base-hit from Jeff Boehm in the frame.
The Sixers kept it up as they scored a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth on RBI singles from Hermosillo and Ryan Sebra. Strentz put the exclamation point on the night with a towering three-run homer to center to give the 66ers a 13-7 lead and their season-high in runs scored.
Grayson Long (1-1) allowed four earned runs in five frames and got his first Cal League win for the Sixers in his second appearance for IE. Shane McCain (6-4) took the loss for the Mavs (79-56, 36-29). Every starter had at least one hit for the Sixers. Strentz finished with three hits and five RBI while Hermosillo knocked in four. Luke Tendler, David Lyon and Juremi Profar all homered for High Desert.
The 66ers will play in the final regular season home game in High Desert Mavericks history Thursday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com and 1570 AM KPRO.
