Blaze One Step Away in Drubbing of Giants
September 1, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release
San Jose, CA- From a pitchers duel to a firework show, it's been quite the scene in the first two games between the Bakersfield Blaze and San Jose Giants.
Fortunate for the guys from Bako, both outcomes have gone in their favor.
Joe DeCarlo hit a 3-run home run in the first inning and later on in the frame, Braden Bishop smacked a 2-run blast to left field as the Blaze smashed the Giants 15-7.
The two deep drives were all part of a 6-run opening statement as Jose Reyes never found his groove and San Jose trailed 6-0 after a half inning. Bakersfield added two more home runs by Gianfranco Wawoe and Chantz Mack to put the game to bed.
Anthony Misiewicz snapped a 6-game winless streak with a victory on Wednesday night, but he got plenty of help as his offense accounted for 16 hits in the thrashing of San Jose.
Bishop and Wawoe each had four runs driven in, while DeCarlo was 3-5 with 3 RBI and two runs scored as well.
The win for Bako along with a Visalia and Modesto loss on Wednesday night meant two important things for the Blaze. Modesto's loss combined with the Blaze win meant Bakersfield clinched a playoff spot and Visalia's loss at Stockton dropped the magic number down to one for the Blaze as they have five game remaining in the regular season.
One Rawhide loss or a single Blaze victory in any of the next five games will propel the team to the second half North Division crown.
San Jose will host Game 1 of the first round against Bakersfield on Wednesday, September 7th. The Blaze will then play the Giants in Game 2 and a possible Game 3 (if necessary) on the 8th and 9th at Sam Lynn Ballpark.
Bakersfield improved their road record to a Cal League best, 41-24 this season.
The Blaze will look to sweep and celebrate on Thursday afternoon in San Jose with first pitched scheduled for 12:30pm. David Gascon will have the call courtesy of TuneIn Radio and BakersfieldBlaze.com.
