Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - Jose Hernandez threw seven dominant shutout innings for the JetHawks, but the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes came alive late and salvaged the series finale, 6-3, on Thursday night at The Hangar.
Hernandez has now tossed 13 consecutive scoreless innings. The right-hander threw 90 pitches, 67 for strikes. He gave up five hits, did not issue a walk, and struck out eight.
With the loss and Lake Elsinore's win over Modesto, the JetHawks magic number to clinch a playoff spot remains at one.
Kyle Tucker put the JetHawks on the board with a two-out solo home run in the first inning, his second with Lancaster. It remained 1-0 until the fifth, when Aaron Mizell led off with a walk and later came home on a bloop RBI single off the bat of Marc Wik.
Ralph Garza (1-1) was summoned from the bullpen in the eighth inning and Rancho Cucamonga scored three times to take the lead. The JetHawks committed two errors behind Garza on a pair of potential double play balls. As a result, all three runs in the frame were unearned.
The Quakes added three insurance runs in the ninth inning. Devan Ahart launched his first home run with the Quakes, a two-run shot. Matt Beaty added an RBI single.
Aaron Mizell hit a solo home run in the ninth inning for the JetHawks, his seventh of the season.
Mitchell White (1-0) earned the win in his High-A debut. The right-hander tossed two shutout innings out of the bullpen and struck out two.
The JetHawks welcome in the Inland Empire 66ers on Friday night at The Hangar for the first of a four-game series to conclude the regular season. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
The JetHawks are celebrating their 20th anniversary season in Lancaster. Great ticket packages and group events are on sale now at jethawks.com or by calling (661) 726-5400.
