Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lancaster, CA-- After a brief two-game absence from the win column, the Quakes notched a come-from-behind victory on Thursday night, avoiding a three-game sweep with a 6-3 win over the Lancaster JetHawks at The Hangar.
Three in the eighth and three more in the ninth accounted for all the Rancho scoring on the night, as the Quakes salvaged the final game of the three-game set in Lancaster, finishing 3-3 on their final road trip of the regular season.
Down 2-0 after seven innings, the Quakes rallied against the JetHawks' bullpen. Three Rancho hits and two JetHawks' errors helped key the come-back against reliever Ralph Garza (1-1). With one out, Brandon Trinkwon singled, then advanced to second, as Dodgers' rehabbing outfielder Andre Ethier reached on an error. Matt Beaty followed with an RBI hit, putting hte Quakes on the board at 2-1. Yusniel Diaz then singled home Ethier, evening the game at 2-2. Johan Mieses followed with a grounder to third base, which Keach Ballard misplayed, allowing Beaty to score the go-ahead run.
In the ninth, the Quakes poured it on with three more. Devan Ahart clubbed his first homer of the year with a man aboard, making it 5-2. Beaty later singled home Dian Toscano, giving the Quakes another insurance run, at 6-2.
In the last of the ninth, Corey Copping got the first two outs, but surrendered a solo-shot to Aaron Mizell, making it 6-3. After Copping gave up a two-out single to Brooks Marlow, Copping got the final out, getting Ballard to fly out to end the game.
Quakes' reliever Mitchell White (1-0) was strong in his debut, allowing just one hit over two scoreless innings.
Lancaster starter Jose Hernandez was nearly untouchable over seven innings, as he left with a two-run lead. Hernandez allowed just five hits and struck out eight, but suffered the no-decision, due to the JetHawks' bullpen blowing the lead.
Quakes' starter Chris Anderson pitched well over 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out seven in the no-decision.
The Quakes (36-30, 78-58) return home to LoanMart Field on Friday night, as they host the Modesto Nuts for a four-game series. The Quakes will send Tim Shibuya (3-0) to the mound on Friday against Modesto's Colin Welmon.
