Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - Brock Dykxhoorn tossed seven shutout innings and Kyle Tucker picked up four hits and three RBI, as the JetHawks trounced the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 15-1, on Wednesday night at The Hangar.
Dykxhoorn allowed just three hits, walked two, and struck out eight. Only two runners reached second base and neither made it to third during the right-hander 's outing. It was his fourth consecutive start in which he has pitched five or more innings and allowed two runs or less.
With the win, Lancaster 's magic number to clinch a playoff spot shrank to one. They can clinch with a win on Thursday night over the Quakes or a loss by Lake Elsinore to Modesto.
The JetHawks jumped ahead early and never looked back. They scored two runs in the opening frame. Tucker delivered an RBI double and Bryan Muniz brought home another with a ground out. It was one of three RBI doubles on the night for Tucker.
Lancaster scored 11 runs over their final three times up at the plate to break open the game, including five in the sixth inning.
Jason Martin, after going deep twice in the series opener on Tuesday, homered again. His three-run shot in the eighth inning closed the scoring for the JetHawks. Martin came a triple shy of the cycle and drove in four. Trent Woodward reached four times on three walks and a single. He also scored three runs.
Dykxhoorn (10-4) became the first JetHawk to reach 10 wins this season. Juan Santos pitched the final two innings to close down the victory. Rancho Cucamonga starter Felipe Gonzalez (3-7) suffered the loss. The right-hander allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits in four innings.
Lancaster out-hit the Quakes 16-9 in the contest. They went 8-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
The JetHawks (74-61) and Quakes (77-58) conclude their three-game series on Thursday night at The Hangar. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
The JetHawks are celebrating their 20th anniversary season in Lancaster. Great ticket packages and group events are on sale now at jethawks.com or by calling (661) 726-5400.
