Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE- The Asheville Tourists rallied to earn a series split against the Greensboro Grasshoppers with an 8-4 Sunday afternoon victory in front of the home crowd. The Tourists played from behind for much of the game; however, Asheville's seventh inning rally surged them into the lead and ultimately to their second straight victory.
Greensboro took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Asheville's Chad Stevens answered with a leadoff Home Run in the bottom of the second; Chad's team leading eighth of the season. After the Grasshoppers plated two more runs in the fourth, Stevens struck again with an RBI single in the fifth.
The game remained 4-2 until the seventh inning. Palmer Wenzel worked out of a tough jam in the top half and the Tourists offense went to work in the bottom half. Stevens hit another RBI single to bring Asheville within a run. Cristian Gonzalez tied the game with an RBI triple to right. C.J. Stubbs gave the Tourists the lead with a single that scored Gonzalez, and Luis Santana capped the inning with a three-run Homer.
Heitor Tokar struck out a season-high eight batters and the bullpen combination of Jose Betances, Wenzel, Walker Brockhouse, and Danny Cody kept the Grasshoppers off the scoreboard.
JC Correa, Quincy Hamilton, and Stevens all finished the game with three hits for the Tourists. Zach Daniels and Santana both had two. Asheville finished the contest with 15 hits overall.
Following the off day on Monday, the Tourists will welcome in the Hickory Crawdads for a six-game series. Tuesday night's first pitch is slated for 6:35pm ET.
