Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Bowling Green, Kentucky - The Cyclones dropped the finale of a six-game series on Sunday afternoon in Bowling Green, falling by the score of 6-3. Branden Fryman, who had three home runs in 385 at-bats coming into Sunday's game, hit a pair of home runs to pace the Brooklyn bats, but it wasn't enough to cool off the Hot Rods.
Mike Vasil (0-1) made his Cyclones debut on Sunday afternoon after dominating the Florida State League with the St. Lucie Mets. The righthander had not allowed an earned run since May 4th, but that changed in the bottom of the second when Bowling Green opened the scoring. Garrett Hiott worked a two-out walk and stole second before Logan Driscoll brought him home with an RBI double that gave the Hot Rods an early 1-0 lead.
Brooklyn answered quickly and Brandon McIlwain led off the top of the 3rd with a solo shot to get things back even at 1-1. After Jaylen Palmer grounded out, Branden Fryman sent the first pitch he saw over the left field wall to give the 'Clones a 2-1 lead.
The see-saw scoring continued in the bottom of the frame with Kyle Manzardo connecting on a two-run shot that Bowling Green back on top 3-2 after three innings.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Brooklyn got back to level with Fryman's second home run of the game - another solo shot - that made it 3-3.
But as had been the case all game long, the Hot Rods had an answer, and quickly, as they plated a run in the bottom of the fifth to take a lead and they never looked back.
Jordan Yamamoto was the first out of the bullpen for the Cyclones and allowed an inherited runner to score in the fifth and gave up a two-run home run in the sixth that extended Bowling Green's lead to 6-3.
Brooklyn threatened in the top of the ninth, bringing Jaylen Palmer to the plate as the tying run, but the Cyclones outfielder grounded into a 5-4-3 double play to end the game.
After a league-wide off day on Monday, Brooklyn will head down the shore to take on the Jersey Shore Blue Claws starting on Tuesday.
