A six run fourth inning, capped by Flint Wipke's fifth home run of the season sent the Kernels off to Kane County with a 9-4 win over Clinton on Thursday night at Alliant Energy Field.
The Kernels sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six runs on seven hits in the fourth inning as they trailed the LumberKings 3-2. Marco Albano, Dallas Morris and Flint Wipke each had 2 RBI on the night and Stantrel Smith went 3 for 4 with a run scored.
Brad Coon continues to lead the MWL in stolen bases as he swiped his 49th of the season. The Kernels also set a team high with three sacrifice flies in the game - one each by Brett Martinez, Mark Trumbo and Dallas Morris.
Tommy Mendoza (10-6) gave up seven hits and four runs over seven innings to pick up the win. He is the fourth Kernels starter this season to get 10 wins. Nick Adenhart, Stephen Marek and Rober Mosebach all had 10 wins but have been promoted higher in the Angels Farm System. Darren O'Day and Ryan Aldridge combined to hold the LumberKings to 2 hits over the final two innings.
