Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Dragons (26-28, 61-63) and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (19-36, 46-79) played long into the night on Friday at Fifth Third Field in the first game of the four game series. Unfortunately for the Dragons, it was the Timber Rattlers who showed the most stamina in rallying for two runs in the top of the 14th inning to earn the 7-5 victory and extend the Dragons losing streak to five.

Dayton got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning off of Wisconsin starter David Asher (ND). B.J. Szymanski singled left, and advanced to second on Bobby Mosby's ground out. Craig Tatum followed with a bloop double down the right field line to put runners at second and third. Eric Eymann then connected for fifth triple of the season, giving the Dragons the 2-0 edge. Gerardo Cabrera followed with an RBI groundout to push the lead to 3-0 in favor of Dayton.

Adam Moore hit a home run in the top of the fourth inning off Dragons starter Russell Haltiwanger (ND) to cut into the lead at 3-1. With Sean Watson (ND) pitching in the fifth, Eddy Hernandez hit a two-run home run to tie the game at 3-3. The two run blast was set up by the first triple of the season by Stan Posluszny, who had just joined Wisconsin a few hours earlier.

Szymanski answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth off of Asher. The 15th blast of the season for Szymanski gave the Dragons the one-run lead at 4-3.

Derrik Lutz (ND) pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the Dragons, and then turned the lead over to closer Damian Ursin (ND). Ursin got the first two outs of the inning, but then ran into trouble. A single by Posluszny with two outs brought up Hernandez. Already with a home run, this time Hernandez ripped a double to tie the game at 4-4.

The game went to extra innings. With Bo Lanier (LP, 3-9) pitching in the 12th, a one-out double by Jeff Flaig started the rally. Lanier uncorked a wild pitch, his 12th of the year, to move the runner to third. With a drawn-in infield, Ron Garth singled to left to give Wisconsin what looked to be the winning run.

The Dragons wouldn't die though. In the bottom of the twelfth, Cabrera singled to left with one out. Josh Holden pinch ran at first, and advanced to third on Mike Griffin's single. Adam Rosales followed with an RBI single, snapping a 0-for-16 skid, and tying the game at 5-5. After an intentional walk to Bruce, Habelito Hernandez grounded into a fielder's choice at home, and Szymanski flew out to end the Dragons threat.

With Lanier still pitching in the top of the 14th, Hernandez led off with a single. Robby Hudson bounced into a fielder's choice, stole second, and advanced to third on another wild pitch. Jeff Flaig bounced one through a drawn-in infield to put Wisconsin up 6-6. The Timber Rattlers added another run when Adam Moore picked up an RBI single later in the inning, his fifth hit of the night. That put the score at 7-5, and Juan Colon (WP, 1-1) set down the Dragons in order in the bottom of the 14th to save the victory.

The Dragons continue the four game series at Fifth Third Field against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Saturday night. 1410 ESPN Radio WING AM will carry all the action live beginning with the Dragons Magazine at 6 PM, the Pre Game Show at 6:30 PM; Saturday's first pitch is slated for 7:00 PM.
