Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
DAYTON, OH -- In a game full of momentum shiftes, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored twice in the top of the fourteenth inning for a 7-5 win over the Dayton Dragons at Fifth Third Field. Jeff Flaig singled in the final go-ahead run and scored on Adam Moore's fifth hit of the night to account for the two runs in the fourteenth. Juan Colon got out of a major jam in the bottom of the thirteenth and pitched a scoreless fourteenth for his first Timber Rattler win.
A two-run triple by Eric Eymann in the bottom of the second inning put Dayton (61-63 overall, 26-28 second half) up 2-0. An RBI grounder by Gerardo Cabrera made it 3-0.
Wisconsin (46-79, 19-36) tied the game with a pair of home runs. A solo homer by Adam Moore in the top of the fourth got the Rattlers on the board. Stan Posluszny tripled to start the Rattler fifth and scored on a home run by Eddy Hernandez.
BJ Szymanski lined a two-out solo homer to left off David Asher in the bottom of the sixth to give the Dragons a 4-3 lead.
The score stayed 4-3 until Posluszny and Hernandez teamed up to score the tying run in the top of the ninth against Dayton closer Damian Ursin. There were two outs and none on base when Posluszny singled to right. Hernandez worked the count to 3-2 before lining a double to leftcenter. Posluszny, who was running on the pitch, scored the tying run easily.
Flaig doubled with one out in the twelfth against Bo Lanier. Flaig went to third on a wild pitch. Garth drove a 1-2 pitch through the drawn in infield to send Flaig home with the go ahead run.
But, the Rattlers couldn't hold the lead. Reliever Austin Bibens-Dirkx got the first out, but allowed back-to-back singles by Gerardo Cabrera and Mike Griffin to put runners at first and third. Adam Rosales singled to drive in the tying run. The Dragons would load the bases, but Bibens-Dirkx got out of the inning on a force out at home and a fly out to left.
Dayton loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the thirteenth inning as well. This time against Juan Colon. But, Colon got Griffin to ground into an inning ending 5-2-3 double play.
That double play jump started the Rattlers for the top of the fourteenth. Hernandez singled to start the frame. Robby Hudson didn't bunt, but barely beat out double play on a grounder to second. Hudson stole second and went to third. Flaig drove in the go ahead run with a single through the drawn in infield. Later in the inning, Moore picked up his fifth hit of the night and drove in Flaig with a single for a 7-5 lead.
Colon worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the fourteenth to put the Dragons out of their misery.
Game two of the series is set for Saturday night. Jose Escalona (7-11, 4.07ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Rafael Gonzalez (1-3, 6.66ERA) should get the ball for the Dragons. Game time is 6:00pmCDT/7:00pm EDT.
