Burlington Bees News Release

Davenport - The Swing of the Quad Cities (32-22, 66-56) hit a pair of two-run homers and cruised to a 7-1 win over the Burlington Bees (22-33, 57-65) at John O'Donnell Stadium tonight. The Swing take the first of this four-game series and snap a two-game losing streak while the Bees have now lost three in a row.

The Swing got on the board in the bottom of the second against Bees' starter Matt Kniginyzky (9-5). After retiring the first four batters of the game, Kniginyzky gave up a double to Bryan Anderson and then Tyler Greene belted a two-run homer to left. It was Greene's 12th home run of the season. In the bottom of the third, Daryl Jones led off with a double down the right field line and then Daniel Nelson launched a two-run homer to right that almost landed in the Mississippi River. It was Nelson's 7th homer of the season and the Swing led 4-0. Those were the only hits Kniginyzky allowed as he came out with one out in the fourth after hitting Greene with a pitch. Michael Penn took over on the mound and was greeted by an RBI double by CJ Smith. Smith scored later in the inning when Jeff Howell couldn't hang on to a low throw on a play at the plate. Penn worked through three innings in relief, struck out five, and was charged with the final run in the seventh. With two on and one out, Eliezer Garcia came in to face John Jay who singled to right to drive in Jones from second. Garcia got a pop-up and a flyout to end the inning and worked a scoreless ninth.

Swing starter Trey Hearne (11-3) worked through 5.2 innings for the win. After Everett's single, he walked Carlos Arroyo and then gave way to Scott Vander Weg who got a groundout to end the inning and worked through the eighth and allowed just one hit. Jon Mikrut finished the Bees in order in the ninth.

The Bees and Swing continue this series tomorrow night at 7:00 at John O' Donnell Stadium. RH Dan Cortes (1-1, 9.17) will start for the Bees against LH Tyler Norrick (1-2, 3.68) for the Swing. The game will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pre-game show starting at 6:40.
