Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Thanks to a six-run fifth inning, the Dash outlasted the Carolina Mudcats 10-5 on Thursday night at BB&T Ballpark.

With the game tied at two entering the bottom of the fifth, Winston-Salem (29-23) broke the game open. With one out, Nick Madrigal deposited a single into left field against Mudcats starter Matt Smith (1-5) before stealing second and taking third on a throwing error by Mudcats catcher Mario Feliciano.

With Madrigal at third, Steele Walker and Jameson Fisher drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Zach Remillard then smacked a double into right-center field to score Madrigal and Walker and make it 4-2.

Craig Dedelow continued the rally by drawing a walk to reload the bases. Carolina (29-24) reliever Christian Taugner then hit Carlos Perez with a pitch to score Fisher and push the lead to 5-2.

Jordan George delivered the final blow in the inning. With the bases still loaded, George crushed a bases-clearing double to deep center field to push the Dash lead to 8-2. George tied a career-high by notching four hits in the ballgame.

Carolina took an early lead against Dash starter Cristian Castillo (4-5). Wes Rogers led off the game by singling through the left side before stealing second. After a Ryan Aguilar flyout, Tristen Lutz laced a double down the left-field line to score Rogers and make it 1-0.

It didn't take long for Winston-Salem to knot the score. To lead off the bottom of the first, Tyler Frost hit a high fly ball off the wall in right-center field that bounced back in front of the Carolina center fielder Lutz. Frost chugged all the way around the bases for an inside-the-park home run. It was Frost's third straight game with a home run and first inside-the-park homer for Winston-Salem since 2017.

The Dash added to their lead in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Frost singled into right field before moving to third on a hit-and-run single by Madrigal. Walker then lined a single back through the middle to score Frost and make it 2-1.

In the top of the fifth, the Mudcats tied up the ballgame. Rogers led off the frame by crushing a solo home run to left field to tie the game at two before the Dash scored six in the bottom half of the inning.

Already leading 8-2, the Dash added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Fisher hit an infield single to short. Following a Remillard strikeout, Dedelow walked to put runners at first and second. Perez then lined a single into left field to score Fisher and push the lead to 9-2.

Thanks to a three-run homer from Eddie Silva in the top of the seventh, the Mudcats cut the lead to 9-5. However, Winston-Salem added another run in the bottom of the seventh as Walker brought home Madrigal with a sacrifice fly to left field to make it 10-5.

In relief of Castillo, Vince Arobio pitched a scoreless inning of relief with three strikeouts in his High-A debut. Will Kincanon finished out the ballgame by pitching two scoreless frames with two strikeouts.

The Dash continue their series with the Mudcats on Friday night at BB&T Ballpark. Right-hander Jorgan Cavanerio (1-0, 3.94 ERA) will take the hill for Winston-Salem against fellow right-hander Noah Zavolas (2-2, 3.25 ERA) for Carolina. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m., and fans can catch all of the action on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App.

Friday's game will be a Fireworks Friday as a spectacular postgame show will follow the game. The series will conclude on Saturday with a Chick-fil-A Four Pack Night with live music prior to the game. Kids Run the Bases, powered by New Balance Winston-Salem, will be available following Friday and Saturday's contests.
