Sisca Nets Four Points as Solar Bears Take Down Everblades 5-1

December 19, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Orlando Solar Bears News Release

Estero, FL - The Solar Bears used two third-period goals from C Mathew Sisca and a 30 save performance from G John Curry to earn a 5-1 victory over the Florida Everblades at the Germain Arena on Wednesday night.

Lots of back-and-forth action to start the first period led to LW Nick Petersen opening up the scoring 8:02 into the game. RW Dan Gendur fired a quick pass to Petersen from behind the net and Petersen blasted a one-timer past G John Muse to give Orlando a 1-0 lead. A late penalty against the Everblades helped the Solar Bears push the lead to 2-0, when D Bryce Lampman slammed home a rebound with fractions of a second remaining in the first frame for his second goal of the year.

Orlando stretched their lead to 3-0 at the 5:50 mark of the second stanza. Sisca found D Michael Wilson on the left point, and F Michael Neal was ready on the rebound as he lifted a backhander under the crossbar to get his first goal as a Solar Bear. 2:01 later, the Everblades were able to get on the board on a tremendous individual effort by C David Rutherford. During 4-on-4 action, Rutherford slid past two Orlando defensemen and tucked a backhander around Curry to bring the score to 3-1.

Sisca helped Orlando take control of the game less than five minutes into the final frame. A shot from D Mike Liambas was deflected over the net, but Sisca pulled the puck of the board and squeaked a shot through the pads of Muse to restore Orlando's three goal lead. Sisca capped off the scoring with 6:56 left to play, stick handling around an Everblades defenseman and snapping the puck into the top left corner of the net to secure a 5-1 victory for Orlando.
