Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles defeated the Bakersfield Condors, 3-2, with the help of their special teams. Playing with just 13 skaters as they continue to be short-benched, the Eagles went 2-for-5 on the power play and killed six of seven Bakersfield power plays -- including five in a row to end the game. The win was the Eagles' second in a row overall and their fifth in a row at the Budweiser Events Center.

Despite the limited number of skaters, the Eagles posted a season high for shots in a period, out-shooting the Condors 19-7 in the opening frame. The period saw three goals -- all scored via power plays -- as the Eagles took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

Bakersfield struck first when Scott Enders threw the puck on net from the right point and Jacob Lagace deflected it past Adam Brown as he skated across the lip of the crease at 10:15. But Colorado was able to counter just 44 seconds later when Kevin Ulanski beat Brian Stewart 5-hole from the right side of the low slot. And at 13:43, Joey Sides put the home team on top by putting home a Jason Beatty rebound from a similar spot.

Colorado stretched its lead to 3-1 at 3:38 of the second stanza when Ulanski picked up the puck in the neutral zone and stickhandled through defenders on his way down the slot before snapping his second goal of the game past Stewart. That goal was answered just prior to the 14 minute mark following a turnover deep in Colorado's zone when Peter Boyd scored from the low slot.

The teams combined for just 12 shots (six each) in the third period, as the Condors tried to comeback in what has been their worst period of play all season and the Eagles tried to salt away the victory. Colorado was able to do so by killing off three more Bakersfield power plays, including a pair back-to-back late in the frame.
