Everett Silvertips News Release

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - It took five rounds in a shootout to decide a victor, but the Everett Silvertips pulled out a 3-2 victory over the Prince George Cougars Friday night at the CN Centre. Their third win in as many tries during this week's road trip puts the Silvertips at 6-1-1-0 for the season heading into another meeting with the Cougars on Saturday.

Josh Winquist scored in regulation and in the shootout as the 'Tips erased tied the game up twice and then outscored Prince George 2-1 in the five-round shootout. Mirco Mueller notched the other Everett goal during regular time, while Carson Stadnyk scored the shootout clincher before Austin Lotz ended it with a save on Jansen Harkins.

The contest started with each team missing on an abbreviated powerplay chance early on. The first period was close to ending scoreless before a nice individual effort by Prince George's Zach Pochiro, who stickhandled around the Everett defense for a shot on net that was knocked in by Chase Witala on the rebound with 35 seconds left. The Cougars outshot the 'Tips 13-5 and held a 1-0 lead after one.

Prince George continued to hold the shot edge and territorial advantage past the halfway point of the second period before the Silvertips found a spark during a 5-on-3 powerplay. Everett capitalized on the opportunity as Josh Winquist one-timed a cross-ice feed from Ivan Nikolishin past goaltender Ty Edmonds to tie the score. The Cougars answered on a powerplay of their own two minutes later, with Alex Forsberg's shot from the right boards deflecting past Austin Lotz and just inside the far post. It took only 32 seconds for the Silvertips to knot the score again after Matt Fonteyne won a face-off in the PG zone back to Mirco Mueller, who sent a long slapshot through traffic and in to make it 2-2 through 40 minutes.

The 'Tips outshot the Cougars 10-8 in the third, but the contest remained even through that frame and then a five-minute overtime before going to the shootout. Winquist scored for Everett in the first round and Zach Pochiro appeared to answer with a goal for Prince George, but the net was not properly set on its marsh pegs. Pochiro shot again but was stopped by Lotz. Chase Witala evened things with a second-round goal for Prince George as the competition went to extra shooters. Fifth-shooter Carson Stadnyk tucked a backhand shot through Edmonds' five-hole to put the 'Tips ahead. Lotz then stopped Harkins to secure the Silvertips' fourth road straight road win to start the season.

Austin Lotz (5-1-1-0) made 30 saves in 65 minutes of play and turned aside four of five Prince George shooters. Ty Edmonds (4-1-0-1) stopped 28 shots in regulation and overtime and three of five Everett shooters. The Silvertips went 1 for 6 on the powerplay and killed off 3 of 4 chances for the Cougars, who finished with a 32-31 shot edge.

The Silvertips and Cougars will meet again Saturday night at 7:00 pm at the CN Centre to complete a stretch of four games in five days during Everett's weeklong road trip. Pregame radio coverage begins at 6:30 pm on Fox Sports 1380 AM. The 'Tips will then visit the Spokane Chiefs next Friday before returning to Comcast Arena for two straight home games on Saturday, Oct. 19 against Kamloops and Sunday, Oct. 20 vs. Swift Current.
