Regina Pats News Release

The opening period of the latest edition of the best rivalry in junior hockey took on a physical note early. Dyson Stevenson hit Moose Jaw forward Brayden Point hard and dropped the gloves with Travis Brown in the first of four fights in the opening frame. Marc McCoy and Tanner Eberle followed suit after Eberle hit Connor Gay into the boards, picking up a checking from behind double minor in the process. Dmitry Sinitsyn and Sam Fioretti marked the third tussle of the period when they drew each other's ire after a battle in the corner. The fourth fight of the frame came after Braden Christoffer was called for a charging major and took on Josh Uhrich. Both goalies held the line in the first period as Justin Paulic turned away eleven Pats shots while Dawson MacAuley only faced four attempts.

The middle frame finally saw the scoreboard change as goals went up on the board. The scoring started with former Pat Jack Rodewald who broke in on a two-on-one and beat Dawson MacAuley over the shoulder for the first goal of the contest. The Pats would reply five minutes later when, on the powerplay, Morgan Klimchuk ripped a one-timer that redirected past Justin Paulic in the Moose Jaw net to even the game. With time dwindling in the second, the Blue and White put together a strong shift and were rewarded when the puck came to Boston Leier in the slot. The 20-year old beat Paulic, who was screened by his defenceman, to give the Pats a 2-1 lead with 15 seconds remaining in the frame and Regina went into the room with a lead for the second night in a row.

The Pats held onto the lead well into the final period, but wouldn't be able to close out the Warriors as they pushed for the tying marker. Warriors leading point getter, Travis Brown walked in off the point and let go a hard wrister to beat MacAuley and even the game 2-2. Both teams had opportunities to take the lead late, but the goaltenders would stymie the chances.

The best chance of overtime came when Morgan Klimchuk sent Chandler Stephenson in on a breakaway, but Justin Paulic turned away the chance. The shootout traded advantages and went all the way to Round Eight before Carter Hansen buried his chance to knock off his former team and give the Pats a three game winning streak on the 3-2 win.
