Kamloops Blazers News Release
Connor Rankin had a goal and an assist and Eric Comrie made 26 saves to help the Tri-City Americans (4-5-0-1) to a 4-1 victory over the Kamloops Blazers (2-6-0-0).
The Americans had the better opportunities in the first period and took advantage. Braden Purtill scored his first WHL goal on a backhand in front of the Blazers net for a 1-0 Americans lead 4:47 in the period. The Blazers had two great chances in the period as Chase Souto and Cole Ully were both robbed by goaltender Eric Comrie, who was solid all night. The Americans built on their lead on the power play as Mitch Topping faked a shot, walked around a defender and scored his first goal of the season for a 2-0 Americans lead. The American held the advantage on the shot clock 12-11 in the period.
The Blazers had a better start to the second period with some time in the offensive zone. Again, they created a few chances but were unable to buy a goal with Comrie shutting the door. The Americans scored one against the flow as they went on an odd man rush following a blocked shot and Connor Rankin made it 3-0 in the latter stages of the second period. The Americans took that 3-0 lead into the final period of play.ÃâÃÂ
In the third, the Americans were content with the lead while the Blazers pressed hard and got a goal seven and a half minutes into the period. Chase Souto's shot beat Eric Comrie to make it 3-1 with plenty of hockey left to play. The Blazers continued to press and had a couple of terrific chances in the late stages of the period. Tim Bozon had a great shorthanded chance wiring a shot but Comrie was there for the save. Souto set up Bozon for a one-timer but Comrie robbed hime with the glove hand to keep the game at 3-1 for the Americans. The Americans added a late empty net goal and went on for a 4-1 win over the Blazers.
Bolton Pouliot took the loss despite making 36 saves. Eric Comrie was sensational in making 26 saves and was also the game's first star.
The Blazers found themselves on the wrong side of the power plays once again as the Americans went 1-for-6 while the Blazers went 0-for-1 on their lone opportunity. Through only eight games, the Blazers opponents have had 23 more power plays.
The hockey club will get right back into it tomorrow night as they are in Portland to face the defending WHL Champions.
