Game #9

Saturday, October 12th

Puck Drop: 7:00 p.m.

Regina Pats (3-5-0-0) Moose Jaw Warriors (4-4-0-1)

Head-to-Head

The Regina Pats (3-5-0-0) face off with the Moose Jaw Warriors (4-4-0-1) for the first of eight meetings this season. The teams split their season series in 2012-13 with the Pats holding a 4-3-0-1 record in eight games against the Warriors. Morgan Klimchuk headed up the Pats' scoring against Moose Jaw with eleven points (6G, 5A) in eight games while Sam Fioretti was the top Warrior with nine points (2G, 7A) in eight games against Regina. Coming into this evening's contest, the Pats are winners of two straight with both victories needing extra time to decide a winner. Meanwhile, the Warriors came out on the wrong side of a 3-2 shootout loss in Brandon to the Wheat Kings. Tonight's game can be heard starting at 6:35 p.m. on RM2 (sportscage.ca) before switching over to 620CKRM after Roughriders coverage.

Lead Up: Pats Topple Giants 5-4 in Overtime

The Pats fell behind 2-0 early, but would erase the deficit and take a 4-2 lead heading to the third on the strength of goals from Boston Leier and Dyson Stevenson. The Pats couldn't hold onto the lead, though, as the Giants stormed back in the final frame to send the contest to overtime. In the extra period, the Pats found themselves on the man-advantage and Leier would complete the hat-trick while ending the game with the overtime winner.

Best Rivalry in Junior Hockey

The Pats and Warriors perennially put on one of the best shows in the league for a season series. Last year was no different. Four games were decided by only one goal with two of those going into extra time. With so much turnover the previous off-season the rivalry took time to heat up. This season, 35 players between the two teams (17 Regina, 18 Moose Jaw) return to the rivalry.

Familiar Faces

Two players will be suiting up on opposite sides of the rivalry tonight as Pats forward Carter Hansen faces off with his old "˜mates while Warriors forward Jack Rodewald does the same. Hansen has been a valuable addition to the Pats' penalty kill while Rodewald is off to the best start of his career with six points (2G, 4A) in nine games.

Roarin' Twenties

The Pats' elder statesmen are getting the job done right now. Boston Leier and Dyson Stevenson have combined for eight goals (Leier - 5, Stevenson - 3) in the past two games, helping the Pats to a pair of 5-4 victories. Of those eight goals, five have come on the Pats powerplay.

Who to Watch on Moose Jaw

Defenceman Travis Brown is off to a blistering start to the season. The 19-year old defenceman has an impressive 13 points (2G, 11A) in nine games putting him second among WHL defenceman in points. Brown had 39 points (9G, 30A) last season for the Tribe and is just two games shy of 150 for his WHL career.
