Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - Gianni Fairbrother, Cole Fonstad, and Ethan Regnier each hit the scoresheet in their final home game and the Everett Silvertips cruised, wire-to-wire in a 5-1 victory over the Spokane Chiefs at Angel of the Winds Arena in downtown Everett on Friday in WHL action.

The Silvertips celebrated the victory with the U.S. Division title and trophy immediately following the game, navigating the first 22 games at 18-4 with one game left in the shortened season due to the coronavirus pandemic. Matthew Ng secured his first career WHL goal in the second period while Dustin Wolf, eligible to turn pro next season with Gage Goncalves, stopped 13 shots before being relieved by Evan May for his WHL debut with 4:56 left in the game.

UP NEXT: The Tips will close their season tomorrow at 6:05pm against the Seattle Thunderbirds (KRKO/WHL Live) at accesso ShoWare Center. Viewing packages remain on sale at watch.chl.ca. Play-by-play "Voice of the Tips" Mike Benton will have pre-game coverage beginning 30 minutes before puck drop.

The Tips, outshot 6-1 to begin the game, revved up their effort by outshooting Spokane 44-9 for the remaining 50 minutes and got on the board with 16.6 left in the first period, on Regnier's eighth goal of the season that was set up at the net by Jackson Berezowski.

Ng put the Tips ahead 2-0 on his first career goal, an attempted dump-in by Zach Ashton that caught the glass, was misplayed by goaltender Mason Beaupit, wound up on the tape of Ng while skating toward the net, and deposited behind the scrambling Beaupit at 4:12.

Spokane got to within a goal on Eli Zummack's power play goal off the rush at 6:05 but the Tips restored their two-goal lead 54 seconds later on Fonstad's partial breakaway. Fonstad geared up through the neutral zone, outraced Spokane's defense and stashed his 16th goal of the season on a backhanded deke.

Berezowski extended the Tips lead to 4-1 with 7:32 left in the second period on a power play rebound at the left post.

Ronan Seeley's drive from the high slot deflected off traffic for a 5-1 lead at 2:54 of the third period, and the Tips closed out their victory in the home finale with a post-game celebration on the ice with the U.S. Division trophy and post-game video tribute to Fairbrother, Fonstad, and Regnier.

The Tips closed out their season series with Spokane at 5-1 while Beaupit took the loss on 40 stops.
