Americans Defeated at Home by Thunderbirds

The Americans wrapped up their season series against Seattle today, falling 5-2 to the Thunderbirds at the Toyota Center.

Tri-City was able to get on the board first tonight with a goal from Nick Bowman 4:16 into the first period. Booker Daniel carried the puck into the offensive zone and dropped it at the right circle to Bowman who scored with a one-timer. Bowman has scored four goals over the past five games.

The Americans were out shot 15-7 in the first period, but carried a 1-0 lead into intermission.

Connor Bouchard extended Tri-City's lead to two four minutes into the next frame. He received the puck in the slot off a pass from Sam Huo and scored backdoor on Seattle netminder Scott Ratzlaff.

Tonight was Ratzlaff's first WHL start in net.

Seattle was finally able to get their first goal of the night six minutes into the second period with a goal from Jared Davidson. Henrik Rybinski followed two minutes later with another to tie the game at two.

Rybinski followed with his second straight and scored a shorthanded goal at 9:45 to give Seattle the lead. They held the 3-2 lead into the second intermission.

Americans goaltender Mason Dunsford kept his team in the game and held off Seattle from scoring again until late third period. Dunsford made a total of 40 saves on 44 shots tonight.

Nico Myatovic extended Seattle's lead with his third goal of the season, all against the Americans. Davidson went on to record his second goal of the night with the empty net dagger and secure Seattle victory.

The Americans play twice more this season. They will take on the Winterhawks at home on Sunday and then travel to Portland on Tuesday to wrap up the 2020-21 season.
