Silvertips Fall to Victoria in Season Finale

VICTORIA, B.C. - Tyler Soy scored twice and Cole MacDonald had the only Silvertips goal of the evening in Everett's 4-1 defeat to the Victoria Royals in the regular season finale, before a sellout crowd of 7,006 fans on Saturday.

MacDonald, ending his regular season career with 98 WHL points, broke a run of three unanswered goals while Victoria earned their franchise record 50th win.

Game 1 of the WHL Playoffs will open in Everett next Friday, against the Portland Winterhawks at 7:35 p.m. in the opening round. Vladimir Bobylev converted a ricochet off the backboards at 8:28 of the first period for a 1-0 lead and Matthew Phillips' backdoor finish from Alex Forsberg, a power play goal, staked Victoria to a 2-0 lead at 11:50 which would hold up by the end of the period.

Soy converted a re-direction at the goal mouth for his 45th of the year at 5:11 of the second period but MacDonald answered to cut Victoria's lead to 3-1 at 6:32, sizzling a wrister through traffic and Griffen Outhouse's five hole following a face-off win by Devon Skoleski.

Soy's second goal of the game put the Royals ahead, 4-1 on a one-timer into an open net at 15:26 of the second period.

Outhouse earned 19 saves, opposed to Mario Petit's 23 stops.

NOTES: Brett Kemp made his WHL debut tonight, generating a shot on goal on his first shift of the game ... Remi Laurencelle finished as the Silvertips leading scorer with 58 points in 68 games ... he led in goals with 28 ... Carter Hart, who did not suit up, had 35 wins this season to finish second on the Silvertips single-season goaltending list ... Victoria won all four games in the series and will face the Spokane Chiefs in the opening round of the WHL Playoffs.
