Royals Top Silvertips in Season Finale

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals scored the game's first three markers to defeat the Everett Silvertips 4-1 in front of a sold out crowd to cap off the 2015-16 regular season.

With the victory, the Royals reached the 50-win plateau (50-16-3-3) for the first time in franchise history, and finished the regular season as the top team in the WHL with 106 points. The club also extended their franchise best winning streak to 13 games.

Victoria's Vladimir Bobylev opened the scoring in the first period, before Matthew Phillips registered the game winner. The Royals' Tyler Soy tallied twice in the middle frame to round out the scoring for the homeside. The Silvertips' lone goal was recorded by Cole MacDonald in the second stanza.

Royals' goaltender Griffen Outhouse finished the season with the best save percentage and goals against average in the WHL at 0.937 and 1.82 respectively. Outhouse got the nod in tonight's tilt and turned aside 19 of the 20 pucks directed his way. Silvertips' netminder Mario Petit stopped 23 of the 27 shots fired at him. Victoria went 2/5 40.0% on the powerplay, while Everett went 0/20.0% mark on the man-advantage.

The Royals will have home ice advantage and will play the Spokane Chiefs in the first round of the 2016 WHL Playoffs with Games 1 & 2 on Friday, March 25th and Saturday, March 26th.
