Shorthanded Goal Lifts Ams to 4-3 Victory over Silvertips

The Americans matched up against the Everett Silvertips tonight for the third time over the past week. Once again it was a close battle between the two U.S. Division rivals.

Over the two recent games against the Silvertips, the Americans totaled only 12 first period shots on goal. Tri-City started the tonight's game with energy and controlled a majority of the first 20 minutes. They were able to get 17 shots on Everett goaltender Dustin Wolf, but yielded no goals. The game was scoreless heading into the second frame.

Everett was able to get on the board first tonight with a deflection from Bryce Kindopp early second period. Kyle Olson tied the game at 7:58 with a rebound goal on the power play. Nolan Yaremko followed with another goal at 11:27. The Americans Captain gave his team their first lead of the night with a bullet from the left circle, assisted by Dom Schmiemann.

Zack Andrusiak put another on the board for Everett ending the second period tied at two.

The Silvertips were able to regain their lead with a goal from Jake Christiansen in the middle of the third period. 2019 NHL Draft prospect Sasha Mutala responded for the Americans with his tenth of the season, assisted by Kyle Olson and Bryan McAndrews.

Samuel Huo, recently acquired from the Seattle Thunderbirds, made his debut with the Americans tonight. The 17-year-old forward took an interference penalty that put the Americans on a late penalty kill. Scoring leader Parker AuCoin was able to create a breakaway opportunity for himself and tally the game-winning goal shorthanded.

Kyle Olson took a tripping penalty with 36 seconds remaining to give Everett one last opportunity with a man-advantage. The Americans were able to hold on and seal the victory. They finished 5/5 on the penalty kill tonight.

Final score: 4-3 Tri-City
