Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - A late short-handed goal along with multi-point nights from Tri-City forwards Parker AuCoin and Sasha Mutala gave the Tri-City Americans the edge over the Everett Silvertips, 4-3, before 5,389 fans at A.O.T.W. Arena on Friday night in U.S. Division action.
The Silvertips had their 11-game home win streak come to a close, yet have won or gained points in 24 of the past 28 games. Newly acquired forward Robbie Holmes suited up in his first game as a Silvertip and nearly scored late in the second as he rang one off the post.
UP NEXT: The Tips head north to play the Victoria Royals tomorrow at 7:05pm, Jan. 12, but will return home to play the Kelowna Rockets on Friday, Jan. 18. Tickets available at everettsilvertips.com/tickets (1380 AM / 95.3 FM / Tips App / WHL Live).
A scoreless first period battle led to the Silvertips to commit three minor penalties while the Americans commit two. Silvertips goaltender Dustin Wolf stood tall between the pipes, as he stopped 17 shots in the opening frame, while his counterpart, Beck Warm, made seven saves.
Silvertips forward Bryce Kindopp put the Tips up 1-0 at 1:18 into the second period. Minnesota Wild prospect Connor Dewar fed defenseman Jake Christiansen at the blue line, where Christiansen delivered a shot deflected in by Kindopp, his 22nd goal on the season.
Kindopp committed a tripping penalty at 6:03 in the second, which led to an Americans power play goal at 7:58. Tri-City forward Kyle Olsen tied the game, 1-1, as he poked a loose puck in during a massive scrum in front of the net. Mutala and AuCoin were credited assists on the play.
Tri-City took a 2-1 lead at 11:27 into the second as winger Nolan Yaremko potted a wrist shot from the left slot assisted by defensemen Dom Schmienmann.
Everett forward Zack Andrusiak tied the game, 2-2, at 17:56, where he hammered his 30th goal from the right circle, created from a rebound off Tips defenseman Gianni Fairbrother's shot from the point.
Everett landed 22 shots in the second period, while their defense limited Tri-City to just nine shots in the period.
The Silvertips regained the lead, 3-2, at 8:19 in the third, as Christiansen notched his eighth goal of the season. After a delayed penalty, Dewar was able to re-gather himself after being tripped to make a cross-ice pass to Christiansen who one-timed a shot stick side from the far circle.
The Americans scored twice in the final seven minutes of regulation to gain the edge over the Silvertips. Mutala tied the game, 3-3, at 13:22. A high shot from Tri-City defenseman Bryan McAndrews deflected off the glass and found Olsen, who made a cross-crease pass to Mutala, who finished the play.
Tri-City center Samuel Huo was called for interference at 14:01, which gave way for an Americans short-handed, unassisted, breakaway goal scored by AuCoin at 14:14.
Wolf finished the game with 35 saves, while Warm finished with 36 saves.
