STAT OF THE NIGHT: Eight different pitchers have earned the ten total wins for the Shorebirds in 2011.
PREVIEW: After a thrilling 8-7 win on a Jonathan Schoop walk off in the bottom of the 11th inning, the Delmarva Shorebirds gear up for game three against the Savannah Sand Gnats. The Shorebirds have won five straight games, a season best. Schoop also connected on the tying double down the right field line in the bottom of the ninth inning. Their five consecutive wins have been by a combined 12 runs. Three of the five were one-run wins. The Shorebirds are 5-2 in one-run games this season. The Shorebirds longest win streaks last year were six games, accomplished twice between June 14 and 19 and July 11 through 17.
EARLY RUNS: The Shorebirds have scored 54 of their 109 runs this season in the first three innings of games (49.5 percent). Last night, the âBirds scored four of their eight runs in the first inning.
RESTED PEN: The Shorebirds pen is well rested. David Walters has not throw since April 22, Clay Schrader has not pitched since April 21 and Cameron Roth has not been on the hill in six days.
MACHADO FINDS POWER SOURCE: Manny Machado went the first 15 games of the season without a home run before hitting homers each of the last two nights. He hit his first professional home run in his second game last year with the GCL Orioles (8/28).
WALK FOR WEBB: Brenden Webb walked two more times last night to increase his total to 11 on the year, tied with Machado for the team high. Webb has six walks in his last six games.
A CHANGING PARK?: In ten games at Perdue Stadium this season, there have been 20 home runs hit between the Shorebirds (8) and the opposition (12). Through two games in the current series, there have already been eight home runs hit. In 71 home games last season, there were 70 home runs hit between the Shorebirds and their opponents.
MULTI-HIT KIERON: Kieron Pope has five multi-hit games in his last seven played. He has seven multi-hit games on the season. He is 11-for-30 (.367) at the plate in the last seven games.
10TH IN HITTING: Kipp Schutz ranks tenth in the South Atlantic League with a .354 batting average. He leads the Shorebirds.
FOURTH IN OBP%: The âBirds rank tied for 4th in the SAL in on-base percentage (.354).
