Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Hickory, NC - Fans who show up to Augusta GreenJackets games on Wednesdays should prepare to settle in and watch a lot of baseball. For the third week in a row, the GreenJackets played into extras on a Wednesday night. This time, the Hickory Crawdads rallied to score twice in the eleventh and defeat the GreenJackets 3-2 in 11 innings at L.P. Frans Stadium.
Ryan Scoma singled in a run with a two-strike, two-out base hit in the top of the eleventh to put the GreenJackets up 2-1 and break a tie that had been in place since the fifth. Things unraveled quickly for Augusta though in the bottom half of the inning. Jurickson Profar reached on an error to open the inning and Odubel Herrera doubled to right-center to quickly put two runners in scoring position for the Crawdads.
After Andrew Clark was intentionally walked to load the bases with no one out in the eleventh, Josh Richmond singled past third base to tie the game at two. Christian Villanueva followed with a chopper over shortstop Ydwin Villegas's head to bring home the game-winner.
Adam Duvall's third inning RBI single gave the GreenJackets the first lead for just the seventh time this year at 1-0. Hickory answered in the fifth with a run off a Seth Rosin wild pitch to tie the game.
Both starters dazzled throughout in probably the finest start for each to this point of the season. Rosin fired seven innings of one-run baseball, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out five. Hickory's Matt Thompson struck out a season-best nine in 6.2 innings, allowing a run on three hits and a walk.
The GreenJackets put just two runners on in the fourth-tenth innings as Thompson was followed by Ryan Rodebaugh, who held the Jackets to one hit in 3.1 scoreless innings. Rodebaugh struck out five before leaving after the tenth inning.
In the fourth game of the five-game set, Austin Fleet (1-2) takes the mound for the GreenJackets against Hickory's Carlos Melo (2-1). First pitch will come at 7:05 in Hickory with the pregame action beginning at 6:50, airing on WRDW-AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
Single-game and Season Tickets are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
