Lakewood Falls 6-2 to Charleston on Wednesday

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws dropped the 3rd game of their 5 game series against the Charleston RiverDogs by a final score of 6-2 on Wednesday afternoon in Lakewood. The BlueClaws were held to just 1 hit through the first 6 innings of the ballgame as Charleston SP Zach Nuding threw just 49 pitches in those first 6 innings. Jesse Biddle got the start for Lakewood, but he lasted only 3 1/3rd innings as he gave up 5 hits, 4 runs, and 5 earned runs while falling to 0-3 on the season.
BlueClaws 1B Jim Murphy continues to swing a hot bat as he went 2-4 in the game with an RBI and a run scored. Leadoff hitter LF Miguel Alvarez scored the other run for Lakewood, as the BlueClaws amassed 7 hits in the ballgame. SS Edgar Duran had a single and reached base on a walk, and RF Anthony Hewitt exnteded his hitting streak to 8 games with a 1-out double in the 2nd inning.
The bullpen pitched well for Lakewood as Juan Sosa, Tyler Knigge, and Eric Pettis combined to pitch 5 2/3rd innings of relief and allow 4 hits, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts, and 1 run. Lakewood just couldn't overcome the sub-par start from Biddle, some real nice defensive plays by the Charleston defense, and a slow start at the plate.
Thursday it will be game 4 of the 5 game series as the RHP Colby Shreve (1-2, 5.54 ERA) will take the mound for the BlueClaws. Charleston will counter with fellow Righty Shane Green (1-2, 5.50 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm on Thursday at FirstEnergy Park.
