SALISBURY, MD - Manny Machado's solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning broke a 2-2 tie and sent the Delmarva Shorebirds to a 5-2 victory over the Savannah Sand Gnats Wednesday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, MD. The Shorebirds (11-9) won their sixth game in a row while the Gnats (7-12) lost their fifth straight game. The five-game losing streak for Savannah ties a season-high.

The Gnats used a pair of solo home runs to take a 2-1 lead. Catcher Blake Forsythe started the game's scoring with a second-inning long ball. After Delmarva tied the game at 1-1, Aderlin Rodriguez put the Gnats ahead again with a fourth inning homer. It was the third home run of the year for both players.

Machado launched a long home run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 2-2. Then, with two outs in the seventh, Machado, the #3 overall pick in the 2010 draft, put the Shorebirds in front with an RBI double. Delmarva added two more runs in the seventh, helped by a pair of Savannah defensive miscues.

Savannah starter Erik Goeddel held the ‘Birds to two runs on six hits in six innings. Angel Cuan was charged with his first loss of the year for giving up three runs, one of which was earned on five hits in his two innings.

Savannah will send LHP Chase Huchingson (0-1, 3.65) to the hill Thursday night against LHP Tim Berry (0-0, 7.59) for Delmarva. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm. The radio broadcast on News/Talk 630 and sandgnats.com will begin at 7 pm.
