PREVIEW: The Shorebirds surrendered two runs in the ninth inning and fell 6-4 in game one against Charleston. The Shorebirds have a 1-6 record in the second game of series' this season. Their lone win in a game two came in the first series of the season when they beat Greenville 4-2.
THREE DOUBLES: Ty Kelly recorded the first three double game of the season for Delmarva last night. The last Shorebirds player to accomplish that was Tyler Kolodny on July 29, 2009 against the Asheville Tourists.
MOREAU DOMINATING: Shorebirds reliever Nate Moreau tossed three more shutout frames last night to push his scoreless streak to seven innings. Moreau has fanned 12 batters in his last seven innings on the hill.
DOOMED DEFENSIVELY: The Shorebirds rank last in the league in fielding (.956). They have committed the most errors in the league (50). The âBirds made four errors last night. It marked the 10th time in 28 games that they committed at least three errors.
ON-BASE LEADER: Brian Conley leads the South Atlantic League in on-base percentage (.459). Conley has reached base in nine consecutive games. Conley has reached base with a walk and/or a hit in 21 of the 26 games that he has appeared.
CAREER HIGH 13 DOUBLES: Rosa has already set his personal career high with 13 two-baggers. His previous high was 10, back in 2007 for the Dominican Summer League Orioles (58 games). Rosa had just 26 career doubles in 188 games coming into the 2010 season.
DALLES/MACK CONNECTION: Justin Dalles and DeAngelo Mack both spent the 2009 season at South Carolina. Mack led the Gamecocks with a .361 batting average, 14 home runs and 60 RBIs, while Dalles hit .324 with 15 homers and 47 runs-batted-in. The Gamecocks went 40-23 in â09. They were downed in the NCAA Regional round by East Carolina. It's interesting to note that Mack hit .283 in 2008 for the Gamecocks.
BEST ROAD RECORD: The Shorebirds have the best road record in the South Atlantic League at 10-5. The Hickory Crawdads (10-6) are the only other team with 10 road wins.
DOWN ON THE FARM: 2009 Shorebirds Xavier Avery and L.J. Hoes are leading the Frederick Keys this season. Avery is batting .321 with 14 RBIs while Hoes is hitting .310 with 17 RBIs. In Bowie, Pat Egan has been outstanding out of the pen. He is 2-0 with a 0.49 ERA. He has allowed just one earned run in 18.1 innings.
TOP THREE IN THE SYSTEM: The top two hitters in the Orioles farm system are both playing in Delmarva. Rosa leads the system with a .345 average and Brian Conley is second with a .339 batting average.
1 HR IN LAST TEN GAMES: The Shorebirds have connected on only one home run over the last ten games. Brian Conley the team's last home run on 4/30 at McCormick Field.
15 NO DECISIONS: The Shorebirds starting rotation has accumulated 15 no decisions in 28 total starts.
